A Softened Corner

Spatial requirements are organised into five levels of privacy, accommodating a range of scenarios including walk-in visits, scheduled appointments, use of the emotional support corners, and group counselling sessions. A continuous track system integrates multiple spatial functions, operating as curtain rails, lighting supports, and a defining entry element. It also guides sightlines and subtly delineates spatial boundaries.

Within the rational and repetitive framework of the existing campus building, the project introduces a triangular plan intervention to soften the spatial order of the counselling environment. The angled geometry generates a series of spatial conditions tailored to different modes of support.
Individual counselling rooms are angled to minimise shared walls, reducing acoustic interference while enhancing privacy. A 90-degree seating arrangement allows counsellor and student to sit side by side, oriented towards the exterior, avoiding direct eye contact and fostering a more relaxed dialogue. Residual corner spaces formed by the angled geometry become semi-open waiting and emotional support areas—places to retreat while maintaining visual connection.
Situated at the foot of the mountain on the Tungnan University, the project provides students with a quiet spatial refuge for reflection and emotional reset.
