MICROCHASM
Exhibition Furniture Design

MICROCHASM is a joint exhibition featuring the work of Chia-Hua Lee and Alice Morris. The weekend exhibitions showcase the shared admiration for things they find upon the asphalt, from street furniture to shopping lists. The ubiquitous and mundane objects were displayed and transformed into narratives informed by the artists’ lives and perspectives.

Presented in a derelict row house in Peckham. Found street objects and everyday furniture are transformed into display tables and structures, dressed with custom-made coverings and tailored to accommodate diverse media presented, including installation, sculpture, video and publication.

The dresses are made from the carpet underlay foam, a material typically concealed in the floor, and hand-stitched and cut to form their unique shapes. The use of everyday objects and construction material responds to the derelict house and the artists’ work, becoming part of the narrative of the exhibition.

MICROCHASM - a new word to describe a tiny gorge or cavity (chasm) containing huge and profound stories if you are willing to observe it through a microscope
